Sorry, couldn't think of a better title thread to really get my point across. So the team of poeple that Juliet and Sawyer came across...they threatened to cut off Juliet's hand. That instantly made me think of Marvin Candle/Edgar Halliwax and his missing arm.

Think there's a relation? My best guess, this new group of people represented a threat to the Dharma Initiative. Whether or not they were considered part of the "hostiles" will probably be determined..

We were told that the threat involved the "hostiles," who I assume to be the people indigenous to the island (Alpert and his cronies). This new team of people didn't seem to be a part of Alpert's crew. They were wearing jumpsuits and had British accents. But whooo knows?

Don't forget that the older Australian widower with whom Kate had lived for a while as a worker on his farm had a prosthetic arm as well! He is the one who had turned her in to the marshall, whom she also saved and as a result was apprehended. I believe that his name was Ray, and Kate held an emotional connection to him, even after his betrayal, hence her favor of the marshall, to pay him the money needed for his mortgage ... I always thought that it was significant that he only had one arm, as it came up on a number of occasions.

This would be incredible if he in fact lost his arm on the island, and would just prove that there have been people overseeing the Losties from the island for quite some time!!!:)

Let's not forget that Montand lost his arm while exploring the Dark Territory with Danielle.

H-m-m-m.... I don't think anyone is going around cutting off arms. (I hope I'm not misunderstanding your post.) I think the loss of limbs has to do with an accident on the island with explosives or Smokey maybe.
