View Full Version : A Couple Questions About the Time-Traveling
SawyersGlasses 01-22-2009, 03:53 PM Until the O6 get back to the Island...are the Losties going to be bouncing around in time for 3+ years? If that's the case and they get shuffled around every hour or so...when do they sleep?? And another question, why is it only affecting that group? Why isn't it affecting the Others or anyone else on the island?
Chrysander 01-22-2009, 03:59 PM Question 1: That is what the island demands
Question 2: Whenever the island demands it
Question 3: Because it's what the island demands
Question 4: Because it's what the island demands
 Heeeh

Locke, is that you?? :D
Chrysander 01-22-2009, 04:05 PM ;) Yeah, I just don't think we'll get detailed answers on the last two right now.
Certainly, I think we are in for much time traveling. I imagine we'll see them sleep when there is something in the story connected to sleeping, and it may be in the day time. They wouldn't just show us them sleeping arbitrarily since sleeping isn't very interesting, like showing someone doing a wee etc. If it's connected to something else going on, they'll show us presumably
LorentzGroup 01-22-2009, 04:47 PM One could suppose that, like a pendulum, the Island is swinging back (past, pre-crash) and forth (future, post-crash) about a specific time, perhaps the normal flow of "mainland" time. Because the move just happened, the swings are very frequent, but will diminish in frequency as time goes on.

I like this idea! This could also explain the pendulum-type device that Ms. Hawking was using when Ben spoke with her at her little "lab". Perhaps the "length" and "duration" of these swings is what determines where and when the Island will come to rest when the swings finally subside...?

I'm really intrigued by this question as well. The present O6 timeline is 2008, three years after their rescue. The current Left Behind timeline is 2005, a day or two after the O6 leave. It seems like they'll have a lot of story to go over to get the Left Behinds caught up to the O6. Which makes me wonder if that will even happen... maybe when the O6 return to the island, it will have been 3+ years for them, but for the Left Behinds it will only be a few weeks.
For example, when Ben turned the Frozen Donkey Wheel, he ended up some months in the present, in the Tunisian desert. For him, this all happened in a few seconds. But for the O6, it felt like months. For Sayid, after Ben turned the wheel, he experienced the O6's rescue, his reunion and marriage to Nadia, and Nadia's death and funeral before meeting up with Ben. What was for Ben a few moments, was for Sayid months and months of time. So I wonder if the perception of the passage of time will be different between the O6 and the Left Behinds.

Zoe, THANK YOU!! LOL! You worded this so much better than I could/did.

That makes ALOT of sense, especially because the pendulum was pictured in the foreground when she was at the chalkboard.
What Would Jeff Do 01-22-2009, 08:12 PM I don't think the Left Behinders will experience 3 years before the Six come back. I think the two groups will converge at the same time, whether its 1972 or 2008, with only a short period of time having passed for the Left Behinders. It may only be a week or a few months for them, even though 3 years have passed for the Six.

I like that idea alot, actually. But it would definitely have to be AFTER 815 crashes, right? I don't know. Time travel confuses me to no end...I think I need to watch this season with a quantum physicist who can explain things to me. LOL
bkn6136 01-23-2009, 02:07 PM Here's an interesting question. Say the Oceanic 6 come back and stabilize the island's time, making it 2008, but to the left behinders it has only been a few weeks/months that they've spent hopping through time. What then have the left behinders been doing b/w 2005 & 2008? There's a three year period of time where their presence should be accounted for, right? Or will the history of the island show that b/w 2005 & 2008 the left behinders simply didn't exist?

I'm not sure. We know the Left-Behinders traveled to a time before the crash, so it depends on when the island is when they arrive.

I wondered that myself. They'd be in time limbo or something? And what about Aaron? Would he have aged or come back as an infant?
100%
Also, another thought I had. How does Walt leaving affect things? How come he didn't have to come back?
