View Full Version : We've seen Hawking's computer before!!
walkabout 01-23-2009, 12:31 PM Check out what is going on with the computers!

It looks to me like the Dharma computers are the same model, or at least same era, as Ms. Hawking's "event" computer. Do they have the same purchasing department?
It seems that something happened during the 1970's that triggered all of these groups to start doing/monitoring time travel at around the same time. All the equipment from these different groups were set up around the same time - and surprisingly - have kept working.
mise-en-scene 01-23-2009, 12:35 PM Good observation. I was wondering if it was the same computer as was in the Flame station with Mikhail... Locke played a primitive game of chess on it. Same screen as I recall.
kansasgal71 01-23-2009, 12:36 PM IMO... Mrs. Hawking's lab is an off island Dharma Station. But it is full of all the old equipment because Dharma lost all its funding. But don't yet know why it is so secret?

An off island Dharma station disguised as a church??????
that is SOOOOO COOL!!!!!!!
I can't find a better name for it than....
The Temple...
But then again it doesnt make too much sense, does it?
But then again... WHERE are ALL the others and why are they not time traveling like the losties?
It would be very shocking if we find out that Richard or any other other can somehow get off the island and teletransport to this church Dharma station. But it's just a one way trip. To find the island back you have to use other means.
I wonder how Locke got off the Island?;)

We don't know if it is a one way trip for the Others. There is something extraordinary about the Native Aboriginal Inhabitants of the island. As of yet, I have no idea what. But I think this is why they TT with the island and not with the Losties, and why some of them are able to leave the island... Tom.. Alpert..
I wonder if The Others even know there is an off island Dharma Station? They did not seem to know Desmond was in the Swan all that time. But then again, they did know about the Pearl and could have known but just trying to throw us off...
I cannot wait to see what exactly Mrs. Hawking is... Dharma? Other? Native? some strange lady who is simply obessed like her son?
captjack 01-23-2009, 01:24 PM Ooo, I like that theory. She does know an awful lot about time travel and course correction. Maybe she is a Dharma founder and wants to keep the island safe.
Fierro 01-23-2009, 01:56 PM Funny last year I had this idea that the Temple may actually be OFF the island, so what do you guys think about the possibility of it being Ms Hawking's Church? The Entrance is somewhere on the island, but the exit is right there in this church-station. So perhaps the others are all actually OFF the island. After all, Ben said that it was the last safe place on the island?
Also, according to Ben, only the others can enter there....
100%
Ooo, I like that theory. She does know an awful lot about time travel and course correction. Maybe she is a Dharma founder and wants to keep the island safe.
LOL, last year I also had this theory that Hawking was actually a course corrector who worked from the Temple making sure nobody messes up with the past....
kansasgal71 01-23-2009, 02:05 PM Fierro... I would love to go back and read all your theories!!!
I don't know if the Dharma off island station at the church connects to the island in any way. If it did, why would Mrs. Hawking be looking for the island? And why would Ben only have 70 hours?
But it is or was a Dharma station. I wonder HOW it is connected to the island?

that's why I think its a one way trip, you can use the temple on the island to get off the island, but you can't use the temple OFF the island to go back to the Island.
and the 70 hours is when the island is gonna pop up in their present time, according to her calculations, allowing them to get to it by conventiona
l means, ship or plane, as long as they do it before it jumps back in time one more time.
Now I do wonder HOW the oceanic 6 are gonna stabilize that situation????

And I thought Mrs. Hawking must be in LA because Ben was rounding up the OC6 & Locke in LA and then he visited Mrs. Hawking.
BuffyMars 01-23-2009, 02:55 PM Those look nothing alike to me.
Nevermore 01-23-2009, 04:02 PM Hmm.
So seriously, they couldn't get anything better? They're still running on a 1980s era computer? They don't have one or two grand to afford a modern model? I can understand it on the island, but off the island? The computer I'm typing these words on should be more advanced.
cav23j 01-23-2009, 05:04 PM great pick up
i could see it being a off island dharma station
herrdokter 01-24-2009, 10:13 PM In my opinion this was totally an off island dharma station, the set just screamed Dharma station. Also there was some folders next to the computer, I couldn't seen any detail, but I think its possible they had Dharma logo's on the spines.

And there appears to be a dharma logo on the computer too. Right beside the word, "monitor"....

Yeah. It is definitely a Dharma Station, unless she stole a computer from the Island!!!
I wonder why Hanso would built a station OFF the island, though? What was its purpose?
Is it the long theorized real world-to-Island 'portal'?
Also the logo is not the same as the Temple's, so I assume they are not one and the same.
theredtoad 01-24-2009, 11:10 PM I wonder if somebody could get a mega-zoom in on that computer's Dharma logo and compare it to the Temple?
Fierro 01-24-2009, 11:12 PM I wonder if somebody could get a mega-zoom in on that computer's Dharma logo and compare it to the Temple?
somebody did that already. Can't find the link. But it is in the theories boards. It looks like a Lantern. Like the ones from Narnia...Nothing like the Temple logo.
Im Puzzled 01-24-2009, 11:50 PM Wait a minute.. what if she got a newer computer but kept the old monitor?
Its been know to happen.

Gee, somehow I got the idea that it was connected to the Monk's monastery?
It looks like a secret Dharma station in the Monk's monastery where Desmond was for awhile. Also, is the 70 hours connected to the Island's moving through time?
And, was the equipment old because we were seeing a flashback? OR was Ben visiting the past?
Still, it is difficult to take old data and update it onto newer computers. Maybe older computers are not as vulnerable to viruses?

It could be that this system is built in the past specificly for this situation, either to find the Island in general, or just for this specific incident.
I do think that it's strange how it's been three years since the O6 left.
Surely the survivors aren't TTing for that long. So, it's gotta be like Narnia in that while their skipping around, time passes faster in the real world, and the O6 (Des & Frank?) have to get back when the Island jumps to their time period.
One thing about the station church what not, Ben said, "What happens if I can't get them all to come back."
As if they were on the Island. It should be go back, Right?
It could just be a gramatical flub.
But just maybe Ben can blip back and forth at will, but he needs, the event window, to get them back. Perhaps as a side effect of turning the wheel

Both good points about the computer.
I also get the feeling that when/if they go back to the island the people there will not seem like they have been there for 3 years. Maybe they time flip to 3 years in the future? I never saw Narnia but time passing diffrently in both places would I guess fit in there too.

Oh, I remember these! I really thought computers would never catch on. They were too slow! LOL! So, it wasn't until the 1980's that I started trying them out.
Wow! Memory lane! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_II
Those look nothing alike to me.
Its an Apple II+, it was released in 1979. Don't know about the monitor.
