Are the quarantine signs related to the same sickness Rosseau talked about? Was there some kind of massive release of 'smokey energy' that affected a lot of people on the island turning them into other-like creatures? Is that related to the 1985 Incident caused by, probably, a malfunction of the Cerberus System?
Furthermore, is the infertility issues a consequence of that??? Like the island decided not to let women have kids anymore so their babies wouldn't loose their innocence when being affected by the lingering sickness?

it's possible but I think the not being able to have babies is due to a time loop if your stuck in a certain year how can you procreate when time isn't really passing?

?? Time is still passing for the '77 Losties... Just not the time they thought they'd end up in. They should all be able to give birth, unless the Island (or whatever the infertility issue is) interferes.

I think it's because the others are not really alive, they are like the base ball players in field of dreams and they can't have kids because of that. thats why richard said ben will lose his innocence if he goes with me.

I think that whatever is going to happen to Ben (loss of some memory, loss of 'innocence') is the same thing that happened to Danielle's team members that were pulled underground. She considered them 'sick' afterwards and it didn't seem to be anything physical, as we saw in her backstory. So it must be some kind of severe personality change.
And yes, I think it's due to the 'smoke monster' somehow.
