Ben went under the Temple just like her crew. They turned hostile towards her and tried to kill her or at least one of them did. I was under the impression that Smokey changed something about them. Now Im not so sure. Did Smokey threaten them into attacking Danielle because somehow, some way Smokey has knowledge of the future? Just like Smokey did with Ben?

It makes sense to me because Danielle is VERY important in the present history of the island. Her presence is critical in many events in the past. Thoughts?

I was actually thinking it might be something along those lines.

Danielle's crew was changed or indoctrinated in some way, and Danielle perceived them as acting strangely and without clear motivation, and saw this as a "sickness". I bet she was already starting to lose her mind from a combination of factors, most likely a mindf*** from all the crazy crap she witnessed, and the concept of the sickness emerged from her own paranoia.

Really it mirrors Kelvin/Desmond, as then too there was a fear of a "sickness", but it was really lots of paranoia and misunderstanding in motivation.

Its almost as if Smokey saw the outsiders, and somehow turned them on one another so all the intruders on the island would be taken care of. Only problem is that Danielle outsmarted the plan by removing the firing pin.

what do you think smokie 'threatened' robert w/ that would make him shoot danielle and his unborn child. really seems more 'possesed' in nature.

Dont know what Smoky threatened them with. Maybe someone important from each of their pasts that made them desperate enough to stay alive and keep themselves from being hunted down.

One thing that may be different between Ben's underground experience and that of Danielle's crew is that Ben fell through the floor and ended up at what seems to be the judging place. Danielle's crew may have had a different experience there as they may not have gotten as far as that sub-floor.

"Robert" certainly did not seem conflicted when he was about to kill Rousseau. He didn't act like a man who was forced to kill his wife. He acted like a man who wanted to.

The French crew were attacked and brought to that hole by Cerberus. It seems Cerberus has a certain amount of creativity in how he is going to treat a foreign invader. It chose to alter them so as to kill each other.

Ben is at least tolerated by Cerberus and is familiar to it. The experience is different because the relationship is different.

Ben states, in this episode, that that actual temple is still a good ways away. This confuses me about the whole hole in the ground scenario. It seems like a worn hole in the ground because of water runoff, or perhaps because Cerberus kept squeezing out under there, constantly widening the hole through friction. But then, below, it is a system of thought out corridors. Why, if it is just the wall? And are we supposed to infer that Ben accidentally fell into a heretofore unnoticed secret chamber? And way back in Season One. Locke gets dragged to some other hole and almost tugged down it. So this can't be the only home of the Smoke, can it?

By the way, by the time we see Rousseau's crewmates dead on the ground, they have been dead for some days. We don't know who killed them at this point.

This is my thought. They would either protect the Island or kill each other.

Either way, Smokey wins.
