View Full Version : Egyptian symbol (Sun/rays of light) in the street?
baldlocke 04-17-2009, 05:24 PM After Miles is forced into Bran's van you can notice a strange door, it's kinda reminiscent of the Egyptian symbol of the Sun-God (Aten)...from wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aten):
"the god was not depicted in anthropomorphic (human) form, but as rays of light extending from the sun's disk"
Maybe it's just a coincidence..are these people connected to the Ancient Egypt?
Here's the screencap:

Any thoughts?
Adam118 04-17-2009, 07:59 PM Don't see any connection. What would a god of sun light be doing in a night scene as half the door of a building in a crappy neighborhood? Was Miles right in front of it when he was kidnapped?
*sigh*
If Miles was standing in front of the Aten when the goonies took him, it could be something like "Miles talks to the dead, thus alive is dead, thus night is day" and...
I'm going to stop there. I can't take it any further than that.
The half door way in Encino is not an egyptian god. On the Island could a door be made after an Egyptian god? Encino? Not likely.
I say Encino because Miles indicated he's from Encino in I think "This Place Is Death", whereas just about everyone else lives in LA.
My guess: the goonies are the rest of the Dharma kids.
AZJeepDude 04-17-2009, 08:32 PM That's is a very common storm door design here in the Southwest (and perhaps in other places, as well); you can find them in Lowe's and Home Depot.
lostnadream 04-19-2009, 05:31 AM Yeah, that's a common storm door pattern-------.but still, it's kinda cool that it made it into the background shot of the kidnapping scene, and maybe was an intentional easter egg, like the infinity sign in the rabbit's ear at Apt #4. The pattern is certainly evocative of the egyptian Aten rays. So, good find say I.

Yeah, but see, you can use the letters from Lowe's and Home Depot, and rearrange them into Dope Howle's, which of course is a reference to nothing...or is it?
lostnadream 04-22-2009, 05:47 PM I re-watched the Miles 'kidnap' scene today and came to this conclusion. Lost Labs folk don't do 'random'. The fact that the scene is setup so that Bram slams Miles against this very door B4 hustling him into their van and making the proposition that he join them and fight on the 'winning side' is meaningful. The symbolism of the Aten's rays(lifegiving force of creation) related to Bram and Ilana's group is interesting. Ongoing symbolism in 'Lost' is the dark/light, white/black,good/bad thing. This season's eppy's have been setting up for "the war" and the question "which side are you on?" If we accept the door as a symbol, it would be pointing to Ilana/Bram's team as the good guys.
Briolette 04-22-2009, 06:14 PM No harm in speculating!
Perhaps the door symbolizes a portal to the island, or a gate to the underworld...

Then that begs the question of if the founder of Lowe's and Home Depot were actually the same person, and whether or not his name was HANSO...
Man, I hate two-week breaks.:frown:
bbydon 04-23-2009, 12:48 PM There is also the dharma logo shape hexagon on the wall, when Miles is being picked up.
bennythecad 04-23-2009, 01:13 PM Maybe Bram & co work for Home Depot then? Hanso would strike me more as an Ikea type & the Others just either make their own stuff or steal it off the DI!
I can picture it now- the series finale with a dramatic distance shot of the island encampment with a huge Home Depot next to it....
