View Full Version : Lingering question

I'm rewatching season five episodes this week, and I am reminded of a lingering question I had from Because You Left. While Faraday was explaining to Juliet and Sawyer the time skipping stuff, he asked if everyone from their group was accounted for. Sawyer, concerned, simply says Locke. Why wouldn't Claire be on their mind as someone else from their group who was missing?

I here you, Tahami. I guess the writers don't want us to focus on Claire until they are ready to show her to us. I don't know why she isn't on Sawyer's mind at that point. I don't get it either.

I suppose, because Claire had already disappeared several episodes prior to the time-skipping, Sawyer's mind had already filed her away as "missing" so he wouldn't automatically think of Claire when asked the question?

Still doesn't explain why he doesn't mention Rose and Bernard though. Or the other remaining 815-ers, if there are any! Where are they all? Or am I misremembering at what point Daniel asks the question?

What's really bothering about Rose and Bernard (and any others in that group), is that they would have to have been somewhere for three years now. Plus there's all the time jumping as well. I just don't see them taking that much time to give us their story, sadly. :frown:

However, that does remind me of something else. Remember when Jin first hooked back up with the left-behinds? He was running from young Rousseau and got time flashed while running. Sky clears, gun cocks behind him, someone says, "turn around slow". Turns out to be Sawyer. Yay!

What bothered me about that was how could Sawyer suddenly appear behind him? It seems to imply that Jin was possibly jumping around to different positions in time then Sawyer and his group was before they hooked back up. Because if they were on the same time periods, Sawyer would have seen him before the flash and they would have flashed together. Right?

Coming back to this topic, if my guess that they weren't coordinated in what periods of time they were jumping to is correct, that could mean...

They could use Rose and Bernard's time jumping adventure to cover time periods we haven't seen yet! Like right after the Black Rock crashed maybe?

I don't remember the scene exactly, but I thought at the time the "group" was the people who had gone with Sawyer. Rose, Bernard, and some redshirts had split from them at that point. Am I remembering this correctly?

But the lack of concern over redshirts has always bothered me. In particular, after Keamy's men killed three in New Otherton.

Rose and Benard are in the caves waiting to become Adam and Eve.

Bears, I hope they are somewhere. I got a lot of little niggling gripes about this show...stuff that I just amuse myself with.

But the Rose and Bernard question really rankles. That they haven't addressed this is such and obvious and grievous omission that I have to assume that they have a big plan for it. It just seems inconceivable that they are going to just forget about these two characters and leave their flame arrowed corpses rot in the jungle.

Until then, I'm going to assume that they banged on Desmond's door and took shelter with him. He protected them from another time jump with his Specialness and they are all playing Krokono and listening to records.

I'm not sure where I read it now, but I remember reading that

Rose and Bernard are both cast to appear in either epi 15 or epi 16, can't remember which exactly.

Except for when Sawyer witnessed Aaron's birth and Kate talking about Claire to her mother in WHH, she has been completely ignored.

Since returning to the island, Jack and Kate has never asked about her once and Sawyer did not bring her up. Poor, lazing writing.

well, quite honestly, just coz we didnt see it doesnt mean it didnt happen. They dont have all the time in the world right now and they've definitly hit answer mode. Hopefully we'll get info and Rose and Bernard (and Vincent too) soon enough.

It's not sloppy writing IMO. While I like Rose and Bernard, they arent by any means main characters, so they've been put on the back burner for a bit. That used to happen to Skippy all the time on Family Ties.

I see where you're coming from Khop...but if they were really pressed for time they wouldn't be firing this filler eps at us. We don't need, for instance, two, no three scenes of Roger going ballistic. We really could have trimmed them driving around in the van so much. Last ep we could have tightened the time they wandered through the bush. Any time at all, we could have taken out anything to do with Phil and put in Rose and Bernard and Claire.

I DO know that the actress who played Claire revealed that she would have nothing to do with season five but would reappear in season six, so I am not expecting her.

There's time to be had.

oh, yeah.....I'm not disagreeing with anyone on the fact that they could throw in a scene or two with Rose and Bernard if they wanted to, but for whatever reason TPTB dont think its that important yet. For all we know, maybe they're not putting them in so many eppies in a row because they wanted to give the actors some time off to do other work while their story isnt the most important. (I think I just saw an Emily de Ravin movie advertised on Lifetime network, that I will be sure to miss since it will be on.....the Lifetime network.)

I watch a lot of movies.......... a lot. And one thing I learned is that you have to trust the director to tell his story until the end.

Absolutely agree with you. I feel sorry now, it was me who brought Rose & Bernard up in the first place. Don't think it's lazy writing or anything of the kind, just itching to know where they are! Probably shovelling polar bear dung on Hydra island, I guess.

Re Claire, it's clear the writers haven't forgotten about her, nor have the characters - she's been mentioned loads of times this season, and Kate's specifically come back to the island to look for her.

^ well, I dont think anyone should feel bad. Thats the point of these debate boards. Everyone has an oppinion. and debating should be just that, a debate. All that aside, I recall just last week, I read a bunch of people asking about where Daniel was, and it wasnt fair, but we saw him for like 5 seconds and the end of SLIH and all is forgiven.
