View Full Version : Jack's Voice dubbed in
tobinoir 04-28-2009, 09:33 AM Okay so not sure if this is in any other threads, but I didn't see it. After rewatching and listening to the scene where Kate and Roger are on the swing sets, she says to him, "I was just trying to help". Roger says, "you wanna help, Kate?" And when he says this, it is VERY CLEARLY Jack's voice! Listen to it! Any thoughts? Is this just Kate's perception, and is reminded of Jack saying this to her in the past? What does it mean?

It is most definitely Jack!
What Would Jeff Do 04-28-2009, 01:13 PM It sounds like Roger to me. Roger and Jack just sound somewhat alike.
Hunkyhurley 04-28-2009, 02:28 PM wow. really did sound like jack- and it wasnt showing his face when he said it. but im thinking its just the way the dubb sounds
Devera 04-28-2009, 02:51 PM I'm seeing connections between this and this People Who Look Like Each Other thread (http://forum.thefuselage.com/showthread.php?t=112044) which started to discuss people who sound alike.

Edit to add: I listened to it. "You want to help, Kate" is definitely a different voice, and it does sound Jack-like. It sounds altered.
UnStuck_in_Time 05-02-2009, 09:46 PM They dub in voices all the time. I'm not a technical person, but it seems obvious to even to me that they are doing it.
Another time is in "Some Like it Hoth" when Radzinski is having the body loaded on Miles' van. He says "You're going to do what I say!" and then a second later, when the camera is panning away, his dubbed voice says, "Take it back to Horace"
I guess that would be a case where they did it to help the story, and in the OP's case is were they are trying to mess with us.
stevo 05-03-2009, 04:32 AM You're right, Jack and Roger *do* sound similar. And as such it's entirely possible that Jon Gries (who plays Roger) wasn't available for ADR on a given day, so Matthew Fox was asked to overdub his voice due to the similarity in the sound of the two.
Not probable... just possible! ;)

WELCOME and good catch! Not sure about the voice, but it is a nice theory. I'd forgotten about the past and how Kate seems to want to help depressed men! LOL!
I did notice an abundance of children in the background. One with an Easter basket, one riding a bike and one by a BBQ. It looks like an old orientation video. Maybe Kate is in the background to one of the old videos that Chang did? :eek2:
stevo 05-03-2009, 11:04 AM Just listened to the scene in question, the "You wanna help Kate?" line sounds almost as though it has been lifted from another episode.

I agree. At the very least, Jack's voice has been inserted.
Hunkyhurley 05-04-2009, 12:29 AM i have no doubt that matthew fox said that line. its his voice!!!!!!
lostmoon 05-14-2009, 07:25 PM It's Jack's voice for sure!
When I first heard it sounded strange to me. There's no doubt they did it on purpose.
RoyBatty 05-23-2009, 07:40 PM Nah, it's not Jack's voice. Sounded like Roger to me.
It does sound like a bit of ADR (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dubbing_(filmmaking)#Automated_dialogue_replacemen t_.2F_post-sync) though. I'm pretty sure that's why it sounds weird.
NegativeZero 05-27-2009, 12:18 AM wow! when you first listen to it, it does sound like Jack. But after listening to it several times i'm convinced that it's an ADR from Roger, at a slightly higher pitch than his normal voice.
