Crow and Raccoon 04-30-2009, 04:15 PM Why is everyone assuming that Daniel is dead?
Young Ben survived his bullet wound to the chest -- is there something making everyone assume Dan can't somehow be saved?
I try to avoid as many spoilers about the show as I can, without going nuts -- was there some "official" word that Dan is now gone?

Piecar 04-30-2009, 04:21 PM I think the actor played it pretty well. Faraday died with his eyes open. I'm happy to say this over and over because Davies did it great. It looked to me like he died right there.
Bella 04-30-2009, 04:24 PM Faraday died in front of us; Ben was still alive when brought to the Hostiles to be healed.
RAD24 04-30-2009, 04:52 PM I agree with the above answers, Daniel just looked like he died, especially the way his eyes were...it just seemed as though he was dying/dead.
avandelay 04-30-2009, 05:28 PM It can be hard to tell, thats for sure, but I believe that in context, it makes sense that Daniel is dead. The acting, the dialogue, and the general story surrounding him all point to one thing. He's a goner.
P.S. I will miss him, he was an AMAZING addition to our show.

Agreed. :frown:

Double agreed. The whole episode works better assuming he did die.

Holy Moley, I agree with you. Of course, you can never be sure, but it looked liked it, it seemed like it, and it makes sense in the scene. Hopefully we will see Daniel in flashbacks because Jeremy Davies kicks toukas.
Chrysander 04-30-2009, 05:39 PM It is poor if he survives. Looks dead to me
toddintexas 04-30-2009, 08:59 PM I think he's dead because of Hawking's reaction outside the hospital when she's talking to Widmore. When Widmore is saying how he sacrificed his relationship with Penny, Hawking freaks out and ends up slapping Widmore.
MS. HAWKING: Your daughter's in there. Why don't you go in and say hello?
WIDMORE: Unfortunately, Eloise, my relationship with Penelope is one of the things I had to sacrifice.
MS. HAWKING: Sacrifice? Don't you talk to me about sacrifice, Charles. I had to send my son back to the Island, knowing full well that--
WIDMORE: He was my son, too, Eloise.
[Ms. Hawking slaps Widmore.]
There are 2 things in this dialogue that makes me think Dan is dead. The first is what Hawking says about sending Dan back to the Island, and the second is when Widmore says "he was my son, too". Widmore used past tense.
The reason that they didn't let Hawking finish her statement to let us know what happened when Dan returned to the Island is because Dan's death was at the end of the episode, and they obviously didn't want to give it away before it happened.
To me this whole discussion with Widmore and Hawking points to Dan being dead.
beema 04-30-2009, 09:02 PM anyone else going to be as pissed as I am if Faraday's character doesn't get a proper send-off? Some sort of burial scene... SOMETHING, anything.
I mean come on
this was a GREAT and important character, who (I think) had much more potential on the show
Lost_in_DeLandFla 04-30-2009, 09:16 PM I'm hoping he's alive too. Locke survived a bullet wound that was almost exactly the same...left for dead in a pit of dead people! It didn't look as though Daniel's wound was in the line of a vital organ. I agree that it appears he is dead, the story leads us in that direction, but we don't know for sure. As I said in another thread, I'm holding out a candle for Twitchy!

Don't hold your breath waiting for it. It would be lovely and a nice change from the norm for the writers, but I doubt it is going to happen. The writers didn't see fit to give a major character like Charlie a nice send-off and it is almost like they forgot he was ever a character (still bitter about that), so I can't see them "wasting" time on Daniel.

I know what you mean. I really liked his character and thought he had great potential since he was a physicist and was the only one who could explain everything that was happening on the Island. I liked the character much more than Miles, and yet Miles is alive and well.
As for a proper send off, Charlotte certainly didn't get one. Don't get me wrong, I liked Dan way more than Charlotte, but it seems with the Freighter folks, since they aren't "main" characters, we probably won't get closure on any of their deaths.
I didn't think Dan would die this early, but oh well, not much I can do.:undecide:
maxaholic 04-30-2009, 09:22 PM locke was dead dead off the island and came back. so nothing isn't possible. but i think he is dead. it would be nice to know that his mother didn't send him back to the island to die. it would be nice to know that somehow he "came back to life". but i think his story is over and is now in the hands of the losties.
i'll miss him as well.
theVOID 04-30-2009, 09:24 PM They can't save everyone, he's dead.

Are you kidding me? Charlie's death scene is a very memorable moment for his character, with him writing 'not penny's boat' on his hand, and showing Desmond. After that, Hurley goes on in the middle of the whole group of losties at the plane in the first episode of season 4, talking about Charlie's sacrifice.
Daniel's death will definitely be giving mention next week, as Richard is most likely going to be pissed.

Besides the cathartic ending of 'The Constant', Charlie dying in 'Through The Looking Glass' is probably the scene where I teared...err..ok, I'll admit it...where I CRIED the most for any form of visual entertainment.
