Damon says something interesting: "Richard Alpert is the only character in the show now, who is in both times. He is in 1977, he is also in 2007."
What to think about this?
The other characters are either in 1977 or in 2007, but not in both times at once.

Good question. What was that comment about? Maybe it indicates that Richard isn't "enslaved" by time and space? I really didn't believe Richard was a time traveler, but maybe somehow what his past self knows affects what his future self knows and vice versa.

He must mean on the Island because Widmore and Eloise are in both times but not on the Island.

Hasn't it been that way since Locke turned the FDW?

Since, of course, everyone who is alive now and was alive by 77, off the island, would be in both time frames... and of course Ben is on the island as a child and in Jacob's chamber... and presumably so are many of the Others in the temple and perhaps near the statue in 2007...
Maybe he's referring to Richard being the same age in both times or perhaps he does time travel at will.
Any chance you can provide a link to where he said this so that we can understand the context?
ETA: Ugg, sorry for all the typos! I should not try typing without my glasses or morning coffee!

He said it in this episode, Lost: A Journey in Time Air Date: 5/13/2008 60 minutes.
Around 32 minutes. Episode is appr. 42 minutes (no commercials).
I think he means, the losties are in 1977, but at that moment not in 2007. Richard is in both times.

The exact quote;
DAMON: and one of the most important things about Alpert right now is he's the only character on the show who's in both times he's in 1977 he's also in 2007.
So again, what about Ben? Young Ben is in 1977 and older Ben is in 2007.

maybe he means Jacob is like the white rabbit with the 15 on it? like there are actually two as in not young or old... although young and old doesn't really apply to alpert

That's correct, but not at the same time, then Ben in 2007 is there 30 years later than the Ben in 1977 :) This is also true for the losties.
Dont ask me to explain it, I cant, but it sounded interesting, because Damon mentioned it.
