View Full Version : Other kids
kokobware 02-03-2010, 11:14 AM Am I crazy or did I see other kids running around the Temple area?
Zach and Emma... we know where they came from (although I'd still like to see the converting process (Cindy included)). But I coudl have sworn I saw other young children... at least one.
If the can't have kids... where'd they come from?
RNugent42 02-03-2010, 02:58 PM Apologies if this is buried in a thread somewhere...
When we first came inside The Temple walls, I swear I saw a black child in there. Now don't think I'm going back to season 1 when we thought blurry background character was a main character being hidden from us. Just thought I saw a child where there shouldn't be one...and it didn't look like Zach or Emma. Not saying this means anything since I could have just imagined it, but it could be something.
100%
I guess we're the only two that cared about this. Here's a screencap anyway.

kokobware 02-04-2010, 11:31 AM Yeah this is what I was referring to. How'd that kid get there? (kind of like how'd Karl get there?)
Jack Sawyer 02-04-2010, 11:34 AM Good catch, guys. Perhaps they're suggesting that since the Incident the island's issues with fertility are no more...and the Others are procreating?
kokobware 02-04-2010, 11:36 AM Could be... but the Swan hatch seemed to be left in the same shape Desmond/Locke left it in... which suggested to me that nothing on their current timeline had changed. They were just back.
razzie33 02-04-2010, 11:40 AM You definitely did (or I am seeing things too)!
Right before they go inside the temple a little boy runs over to a woman (his mother?)
goddessblue 02-04-2010, 11:41 AM I rewatched last night and noticed this, too. Dunno what's up with it, though. Maybe the Temple Others can procreate because of the spring??

I saw at least one dark-haired boy that looked to be around seven.
RNugent42 02-04-2010, 11:46 AM I was thinking one of two things. Either they can only procreate within the temple. Or only original island inhabitants can give birth on the island. This would work if you buy into the two groups of others (Temple Others/Dharmaville Others.) All the people Ben has brought in from outside are unable to reproduce.

That would be one way of explaining it. But I can't buy into the two groups of Others theory... we've seen Cindy with both groups.
Devera 02-08-2010, 03:00 AM Interesting, I missed this...we also saw evidence of children when Jin and Eko peeked out of the bushes, right? It is a good question to ask where these kids came from if we still believe no one can be born on the island. Why did the mothers die? Is it possible for the kids to survive after the mothers die?
NBC001 02-08-2010, 03:53 AM I noticed in "Dead is Dead" in the scene when Ben is pushing Alex (http://www.losttalk.net/gallery/fullpicture_78039_o.html) on the swing in the yard next to them there appeared to be two other children. That was the day Widmore was banished from the Island which would make the date at sometime in 1992 after the purge occurred. If you rewatch the episode you can the two children run over to the other swing set. Could one of them be Karl? When did the fertility issue begin?
Maybe Locke fixing the time shifts also fixed their ability to procreate as well.
LostMyMarbles 02-08-2010, 07:06 PM Or children could be brought to the island from elsewhere, as Zach and Emma were.
beema 02-08-2010, 07:19 PM This is very curious, and I can't offer an answer, but to address this:

Surely not every Other is a kidnapping victim. I'm sure at least one chunk of the Others were actually recruited, like Juliette was. It's possible they recruited some people who brought their kids along, kinda like with the Dharma Initiative. Especially since in all likelihood, recruits of this nature would've believed they were going to work for a legitimate company like Mittelos Bioscience.

Excuse me I don't mean to be rude but what does my post have to do with anybody being kidnapped? I never said anything in my post that implies that anyone was kidnapped. I just asked two simple questions:
1. Could one of the children seen in that scene be Karl?
2. When did the fertility issues begin?
Was Karl kidnapped? Do we know anything about Karl's family or where he came from? His being kidnapped has been discussed on this forum but was not mentioned in my post and I have never seen anything that confirmed he was kidnapped.
Zack and Emma were kidnapped by the Others but I did not mention Zack or Emma in my post.
So why in the world would you quote my post and make a comment about someone being kidnapped when my post does not say anywhere or imply anywhere that someone was kidnapped?
beema 02-08-2010, 09:25 PM I didn't say you said anything about kidnapping. I was offering my suggestion on how kids might have gotten to the island in that scene you point out.
Chill dude
