At first viewing I loved seeing Search and Destroy being played from the ruins of New Otherton. In my teens and twentys, there were many a time I played that same song when I was feeling......well, like someone in their late teens and early twentys often feels.

On second viewing I realized Sawyer had been listening for different reasons than I had. He viewed it as a love song song about Juliet.

Many of the lyrics apply to Sawyers and Juliets last moments together:

"I'm a street walking cheetah
with a heart full of napalm
I'm a runaway son of the nuclear A-bomb
I am a world's forgotten boy
The one who searches and destroys
Honey gotta help me please
Somebody gotta save my soul
Baby detonates for me
Look out honey, 'cause I'm using technology !
Ain't got time to make no apology
Soul radiation in the dead of night
Love in the middle of a fire fight
Honey gotta strike me blind
Somebody gotta save my soul
Baby penetrates my mind"

I dont think there's been a song choice this inspired since 'Redemption Song'. Kudos to the writers for finding the perfect song on various levels.......yet again!

Here here. Really loved the choice of music. At first, when Smokey was running around the jungle and I heard the song, I thought my iPod was still on somewhere. Then I realized it was Sawyer and I thought, "Holy crap. What a fitting song on so many levels."

What a perfect song. Seems like it was written for the show! Love me some Iggy.

ITA. I actually made this (http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/5220/searchndestroy.jpg) for the Suliet thread (just to give a visual with the lyrics) earlier today because I couldn't get over the appropriateness of the song ...

(sorry to non-Sawyer/Juliet fans, lol. but I thought I'd share it over here given the thread topic)

As soon as the ep was over, I had to run over to my laptop and add the song to my LOST playlist. So perfect.

Cool coincidence - I'd just listened to that song a few hours before the episode aired - it's on the soundtrack to The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou.

Yeah, that was cool. Even better than Jack listening to Nirvana and Pixies. When Smokey asked Sawyer what he was doing, if that were me, I would have said "Drinking and listening to Raw Power. It's the last Stooges album. Some purists don't like it because they moved Ron Asheton from guitar to bass, but it's my favourite". Depending on what point of 2007 they're in, Raw Power may not be the last Stooges album, as The Weirdness was released that year, but Sawyer wouldn't know that.

I know this is pedantic, but when Jack was listening to Gouge Away on his way back to the funeral parlour, I thought that's all well and good, but that means he's been listening to Here Comes Your Man and La La Love You during the day. It's sort of like Sideshow Bob grimacing as he does weights, then gleefully during aerobics.

More pedantry: Didn't the music just stop at some point while Smokey and Sawyer were talking? It's track one, side one!

Another thing I noticed during Sundown is that that episode marks the first time (as far as I know) that a song has been playing without there being a source within the story playing it - I'm referring to the reprise of Catch a Falling Star with additional reverb when Claire wasn't actually singing it.
