It was odd to be sure. But I think I know what they were going for. In this season of callbacks to the early seasons, it was recalling the way many first season episodes ended -- slow motion, music, everyone gathering together.

Tabula Rasa -- everyone's happy, getting along, banding together. Wreckage everywhere. Sayid struts in a (WHITE) wifebeater, Locke ominously oversees the proceedings from a distance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkYpeN-9I-0

Sundown -- everyone's happy, getting along, banding together. Wreckage everywhere. Sayid struts in a (BLACK) wifebeater, Locke is the center of the proceedings: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uU9MzJuuAAc

you're right - it is just like the old episodes. those kind of endings make it really hard to wait a whole week for the next episode

That's a cool call-back. Nice catch.

But your S1 scene had a line in it that sounded a little more creepy this time around.
JACK: I don't want to know. It doesn't matter, Kate, who we were - what we did before this, before the crash. It doesn't really—3 days ago we all died. We should all be able to start over. :eek2:

Love this. I loved the final scene, it was so chilling and scary and just, awesome! Seriously, the song, the slo mo, Sayid's look(!), and then Locke's head tilt-appraisal of Kate. Great stuff.

Re-watching the first link I noticed something I'd never noticed before. At the very end, when the camera focuses in on Locke, you can faintly hear the sound the smoke monster makes.

Of course, this has probably been discussed many times on this board and I just missed it.

I thought it definately brought back previous endings for the first time this year. Of course, in a totally frightening way. Can't wait till next episode.Maybe we'll find Sawyer and Ben. Not to mention Richard.

HA! Knowing what we know now, the Tabula Rasa clip (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkYpeN-9I-0) is a very creepy clip to watch. And what Jack said at the beginning was great!

It's great to know I can rely on the people here to have better memories than me and remind me of this sort of fabulous stuff. Thanks, dp2, for helping me appreciate the coolness on a deeper level!

Thank you dp! That is fantastic!!

Of course the very meaning of the episode "clean slate" and the fact that the title is in Latin is interesting in and of itself as well.

Also...Locke was the one that left behind Kate in Left Behind...as well as...banished her from the Dharma Village later on.

The orange smile directed towards Kate also came to mind in the end of Sundown. :shocking: creepy stuff!!

My friends and I call that a "Felicity ending", as JJ Abrams did those on Felicity, and Alias too. I definitely noticed it.
