It seems like 85% of last nights' characters were wearing purple. I tried to find the discussion on colors while watching the episode and couldn't find it. I was driving my wife crazy pointing out everyone who was in purple. Almost EVERYONE. I mean on both sides as well as in the flash-sideways had some shade of purple.

Yet when I found the discussions, and the website (http://www.lucidity.es/The%20Sewing%20Kit/Purple.htm)based on colors, it says purple represents love.

I think TPTB have flipped it on us, and purple means war.

I actually think the colors on lost are based on "auras". As we are entering the last episodes of the show, and its conclusion, purple seems to be appropriate to me.
http://www.reiki-for-holistic-health.com/auracolormeanings.html
"The aura is the electromagnetic field that surrounds the human body (Human Energy Field-HEF) and every organism and object in the Universe."
Purple:
"VIOLET AURA COLOR: Relates to crown, pineal gland and nervous system. The most sensitive and wisest of colors. This is the intuitive color in the aura, and reveals psychic power of attunement with self. Intuitive, visionary, futuristic, idealistic, artistic, magical."
Hmmm. Maybe Smokey is the "aura" of the island!?
"Dark and muddy gray: Residue of fear is accumulating in the body, with a potential for health problems, especially if gray clusters seen in specific areas of the body "

I just did a quick scan through the episode. Yeah lol, you're right. Keamy, Omar, Locke (arguable), Sawyer (arguable), Sun, Jack (arguable), Ilana, Ben. I didn't catch Jin in any purple in either timeline, but more importantly, Widmore's people were devoid of purple, I believe. If there was some in there, it was minor. Zoe and Widmore have no purple around them to be seen. They're definitely trying to tell us something.

The blog that you posted actually started here and even further back than that we were looking at what the colors and light might mean

We've discussed purple a lot and I have been stressing that it means passion which can be either love or hate.

It's interesting that this has been brought up...purple is actually the color associated with lent, the catholic season symbolically representing the suffering and temptation of Jesus in the desert, leading up to the resurrection of Christ and the joy of Easter. I didn't notice it last night watching, but who knows maybe it was intentional...

Read some of the thread that is linked above you. In a show that often puts red shirts on characters that are soon to be slaughtered (this season may or may not be an exception), they are always very aware of the colors they put on the characters. And someone major in each camp, with the exception of Widmore's, is pimping some shade of purple. Though you could almost argue Des had some. But he was pretty close to red.

Maybe the purple is indicative of the alignment of the people we're seeing it on. Purple is defined as being the color between red and blue. I know we have been presented with Black and White, but maybe the red and blue are alternative representations. The shades that the various characters are wearing could be a clue to which way they are tilting.

And the Easter connection is very solid as well, especially if you've read any of Doc Jensen's recent recaps, or the crazy hopes of us Locke fans that are holding out for old crab-face corpse to come back to life.

Sun had a purple tank top on during the beach scenes.

Love the Purple/Easter/Temptation connection! Especially (don't hit me...) in reference to G-d:
John 3:16
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

Interesting thread linked above. Seems like no one is sure what the colors mean, but they are definitely on purpose. Especially since their colors seem to change from one episode to the next, even if everything else was to stay the same. It would be interesting to see if there were clues to the colors in the last supper images. If so, Jack is the only one in purple, so that would mean...?

Desmond turned the sky purple when he triggered the failsafe.

That Christian Sheppard "sacrificed" his son? Jack will be the next Jacob?
