Well trying to find some good in this epi I guess Ill post about the special subject surrounding MIB.

So, what made him special?

He somehow knew specific things about the energy, in particular the relationship it would seem between the water and light or the flow of water and how it affects the light. Clearly the donkey wheel acting as a water wheel would manipulate the energy to some kind of end.

I got the feeling, much like his board game knowledge that this knowledge or information is the thing that made him special. Are we to believe that Claudia had been guiding him along or teaching him certain things? Was his ability to see the dead the special quality that gave him the knowledge that mother seemed to fear?

Being special isnt new information on this show but just what or how is it hugely important or connected to the Island?

It's a good question...and one that I think, will go unexplained. I think we're just going to have to go with the idea that he was...well...special and leave it at that. I doubt we'll get any concrete explanation.
