Hey,
I missed most of the first season so I am one of the few who appreciates the repeats. Please no flames!
Anyway, I have been reading these and other blogs and have a theory as to what is going on:
1) The numbers if used as coordinates 4.0815 16.2342 put you near a town in the Central African Republic named Bangui. Bangui is famous for having a large magnetic anomoly thought to be caused by a meteorite (cool plot stuff!). Compasses will point wildly in the anomoly. The anomoly is large and includes the location of the coordinates. The Island is also supposed to have a magnetic anomoly as noted in the Dharma orientation film.
2) Take the antipode, which is the coordinates of the exact opposite side of the earth from 4.0814 16.2342 and you get -4.0815 164.2342 and puts you northeast of Sidney, Australia, roughly where the plane would have been 6 hours into a flight. These could be the coordinates of the Island. If so we have two magnetic anomolies on the exact opposite sides of the earth. (You can go to Mapquest and enter the latitude and longitude numbers to see where they are).
3) Mr. Eko's brother's plane crashes on the Island after leaving Nigeria, not within flight range of the Island but well within flight range of Bangui.
4) The 108 minutes of the entry of the numbers into the computer corresponds to the 108 minutes satallites take to orbit in low earth orbit. Sending the coordinates of the opposite side of the earth when the satallite is overhead might make sense for 1960's technology when this all presumably began.
5) Thanks to the repeats I've noticed a pattern. Once Hurley uses the numbers, people begin dying. Hurley's grandfather, Jack's dad, Boone's dad. The guy Hurley got the number's from went crazy saying that using the numbers "opened the box" and was very upset and afraid. I'm thinking he knows what is about to happen: the death of the original Dharma participants and the return to the Island of their children.
6) Some people seem to be taking well to the Island, as though they've lived in similar conditions before. A lot seems to be controlled, the most obvious of which is that anyone survived. I'm thinking some of the survivors, the older ones, are returning members of the Dharma project to guide the children in some way.
7) The polar bear makes sense if you consider that they can be found at the north pole, another magnetic spot. I'm waiting for penguins to show up. Somehow magnetic poles keep popping up in various ways.
Questions:
A) Which direction was Eko's brother's plane heading?
B) Can rapid travel happen between Bangui and the Island somehow?
C) Are the parents of the survivors involved in the Dharma project?
D) Are Dharma project members part of the survivor group?
E) Is a satallite involved in the 108 minute countdown.
F) Are the deaths of parents of survivors part of the Dharma project?
Thanks guys, great show...
