I'd read Watership Down before, many times, but had never tackled The Stand until I heard about the possibility of some of the LOST themes and characters being inspired by this book. So then I had to read it. I actually had a copy on my bookshelf already. And since I was already alert to the importance of Watership Down, I took special note of those references in The Stand.

And now I think I know.... something small anyway. When people see the "thing/monster" on the island, some of them go *tharn*, like some of the rabbits did. And then there was Danielle's ship, on the water, that went down... but that is kinda dumb.

Other than The Green Lantern and the Flash, are there other great literary works I should explore to help me satisfy my LOST obsession while I wait for the new episodes?

hi! i wish i could tell you that there is any one book that you could pick up that would help unlock the secrets of lost - but the fact is we are all, as writers, influenced by a lot of things - and even i don't know what everything that rages in the minds of jj and damon truly means. so i can't really stter you toward any one work of literature that will clear it all up... we try to keep lost as original as we can make it, even though we all have works by which we have been havily affected.

of course, if i were really mean i would say "if you read the unabridged finnegan's wake and all of the volumes of marcel proust's in search of lost time, then you truly will understand this tv show."

but i'm not mean.
