Hi, Gregg!

First of all, thank you for doing this. I loved your take on the character v. mysteries debate because it mirrors my own. IMO, the characters are not there just to explore the island/unveil the mysteries, but the mysteries and the island are there to help me peel each layer of these incredibly vivid, complex, addicting characters. As intriguing and fascinating as I find Smokey or Dharma, I for one wouldn't be doing serious damage to my career and my grades at school by hanging so much around the Fuselage for them.

Which brings me to flashbacks. I too understand the other side of the debate, but like you said, they're what makes Lost the unique smorgasboard that it is and they only add to an already outstanding variety of characters. To me, Christian Shephard is more complex and compelling than a lot of lead characters on TV (I love to loathe him) and I'm more invested in Helen or Nadia than I am in the whole cast of other shows. Season 2 has not disapointed me in the least and I was wondering if you could confirm something for me. (No worries, I'm not asking for the key to Locke's map or anything. ) From SOS, previews and what I've read about future eps it seems that there's a tendency to go further back in the tailies' backstory first (Collision, The 23rd Psalm) and focus on their Australian adventures later in the season, as opposed to flashback progression for (most of) the losties. Was that a conscious decision or was it simply what was needed to flesh out their characters and weave their stories in the island plots? Thank you again and sorry if I'm not making much sense. I'm not looking for any hidden meaning, I'm just interested in the inner workings of character development and the writing process.

Btw, I love "The Jack Show" in all its glory. PS: Please send the Wardrobe Department my undying love! ;)
