Hi Mr. Mapother!
First off, amazing acting on your part. Ethan DEFINITELY freaks me out!
I had a couple of questions though.....With the exception of the whole "Hanging Charlie" (by the way, not nice at all), we didn't see Ethan do anything bad. Was/Is Ethan there to show us that the Others aren't entirely bad? Or was Ethan just a rebel?

Why'd he have to hang Charlie anyway? Couldn't he have just knocked him out and left him somewhere?

in fact, you didn't even see ethan hang charlie. see other threads here for my extensive defense of ethan.
i think ethan's purpose is the story is not yet known..
charlie was hanged as a warning to jack, i assume. jack was warned. jack disobeyed. jack was a bad boy.
