I can already see similarities with Eddie Dean's heroin addiction (Did you get the character name 'Charlie' from the allusion to Charlie Brown and Lucy?). I love Stephen King too, his characters are so fleshed out and real -- did any of your references come from 'The Stand' or 'It'?
