Gregg,
Thank you to everyone involved with Lost, from top to bottom, for their part in creating a truly great show. And a big hug and kiss to you for doing what you do, and for taking time out of what must be a very busy schedule to hear and respond to the fans. I’ve just discovered this site, how terrific is this!! Now that the season is over, I’m going to miss the weekly Lost parties, where the debates ranged from the island tesseract theory to the degree of Ekko’s badass-ness:) . Thanks to all for making tv fun again...
I have a couple questions, please forgive me if they have been covered (as I said, I am a newbie here and although I did scan the earlier posts, I haven’t read them all in entirety). Any response you are able/willing to provide is greatly appreciated.
1) Regarding the writing … how is the overall story broken down into individual episodes, i.e., are there episode outlines or something of that nature drawn up for the season, and then specific episode scripts developed later based on the outlines? How far in advance of taping is this done?
2) Assuming that the overall storyline is firmly in place, what elements are subject to change? Are minor auxiliary plotlines altered or added with reference to the science fiction element of the show? What about the character roles, are the major players’ ultimate fates predetermined or subject to change?
Also, on behalf of myself and my fellow female friends and coworkers, I feel compelled (or strongly persuaded;) ) to put in two cents regarding the show’s romantic element (yes, we as women are deeply concerned about such matters;) ). But seriously, it can be difficult to watch Kate and Jack together (ducks and runs from the tomatoes thrown by Kate/Jack supporters), not because of any distaste for either .. .on the contrary, they are both great characters and actors … but more because of a general lack of chemistry onscreen. In our opinion, Kate comes across somewhat like a child trying to impress her daddy. Josh and Evie, on the other hand, have smokin’ chemistry onscreen, but beyond that, Kate’s personality shines onscreen with Sawyer, coming across more confident, natural, and engaging. Besides, the idea of the unconventional romance versus the standard, formulaic hero/heroine thing is really attractive, especially for such an unconventional show as Lost …. And this is what keeps us watching!!
Happy to have discovered this site, and looking forward to next season! Thanks so much for your time. -Heather
