John,

First of all great job on the season 2 dvd release.

Just a quick question. Who makes the decision as to what deleted scenes go on the set and how are they chosen? Is it just random pickings?

I say this because of that TV Guide cd-rom a week or two ago that came out. Three or more deleted scenes that weren't on the dvd set. Are there more out there somewhere?

Once again, great job on the release. Keep up the good work!

Hi Lostattack,

No, the deleted scenes process isn't random. It is very well thought out by the entire team. All season long we work very closely with Damon, Carlton, Burky, and the AWESOME post team... Ra'uf, Amanda, Lance... okay, can't name them all now, but we on the DVD team are all so grateful for everything they do for us! But, I digress.

Throughout the season, the editorial staff collects the deleted scenes so we will have them for the DVD. Compared to most TV series and movies, LOST is actually a very efficient production, so there really aren't that many flashbacks or deleted scenes. We put the best of the best on the DVD. Yes, there were a few other scenes that we included on rhe TV Guide or Best Buy discs. Since space is such a commodity on our disc 7, we don't wanna just put everything and anything on the disc. We held back a few bits that were either too short, were redundant to other things on the DVD, or didn't feel were tremendously compelling... remember, they were deleted for a reason. We also had a couple of scenes that we didn't prep in time for our main DVD deadline. So, all that stuff made perfect additions to those extra discs.

Occasionally, there are deleted scenes that never make it to any DVD. This happens for a variety of reason... legal, technical, etc. Again, this is a very rare situation. You are seeing almost everything that was deleted.

Thanks for your kind words about the season 2 DVD. Our entire team has put a lot of creativity, time and passion into it, so we are obviously thrilled with the response.

Take care,
