In this episode, Locke was taken in my Eddie in much the same way that he was taken in by Benry. I thought of it even more when Locke asked Eddie if he had known it would be him who picked him up. It reminded me of Benry telling Locke that he was sent there to bring Locke back and that he was special.
I wonder if Benry had the same file on Locke that Eddie did!

I'm surprised more people aren't talking about this interesting parallel. There were quite a few similarities:
Both appeared to wander into Locke's life by accident but in truth, they came on purpose. Both may have been seeking Locke out because "based on his psych profile" he was an easy mark and could be coerced. Both told Locke he was a good person, "one of the good ones". Locke keeps getting played over and over in the same way.

My first reaction was Eddie=Colleen, pre sex change.

You're right! Eddie did call him a good person!
I was thinking the outcome of his encounter with Eddie may explain why he flipped out when Benry suggested to him that he was letting Jack tell him what to do.

I think it explains why Locke lashed out so badly after Ben messed with his head. He's thinking to himself, not again. Locke felt played like he had been so many times before and his frustration just built up. It may also explain why he lashed out at Charlie last season over what he felt was his betrayal, ie, Charlie lying to him about the drugs. His history shows that he takes betrayal by someone he trusts very seriously because he's been disappointed so many times.
We always did suspect that smackdown was more about Locke than it was about Charlie.
This is an awesome thread...
It fits in with the theme of Locke's search for a family. He was taken in by his father (through the *mother*), he was taken in by Eddie and Benry as you have said.
This is the first time he is not going with the flo. He is choosing which family to belong to. So it's either hurray for him or he's falling for the island's con (use of Boone image).

I relate Eddie to the Marshall personnaly...they have the same name: Edward, and they are both cops! It makes me think of Mr Smith in Matrix...and you know seing Locke in the same position as jack in the pilot makes me think again at matrix when the matrix changed version...
(sorry for my english;) )
I'm not saying that they are in a matrix just that LOST possibly makes references to matrix...;)

Good catch! It is an interesting parralel.
It lends credence to the theories that what's going on in the island is a reflection of the people's lives before they got there.

Interesting. I wonder how much time passed between Locke's time at the commune and 2004. Could Eddie be a younger Marshall Edward?

The actor that plays Eddie is the same actor that played Tom Cruise's son in last years movie War of the World's {Justin Chatwin}. The plane that crashed in his mothers front yard, the section that Tom Cruise was walking through was the Fuselage. These writer's love to mess with our heads.
