Hey Jack! I've been a member of this forum for just over a year now and my favourite thing about it is the access it provides to some of the cast and crew. I'm so pleased that you've joined Terry O'Quinn, Jorge Garcia, William Mapother and Gregg Nations in the VIP forums! I'm sure you'll be receiving a lot of very warm welcomes.

You've been at the helm for some of my favourite Lost episodes ('The Moth' in particular) so it's pretty amazing to have the opportunity to send you a message you might actually read.

My question is regarding the visual style of the new episodes compared to the first season. If I'm not mistaken, the use of wide-angle lenses has become much less common. I'm not a filmmaker, so I know I'm not picking up a lot of the nuances, but from a viewer's perspective the show definitely has a different look to it now. Was this a concious decision or a natural evolution in the way the Lost crew goes about setting up a shot? I'd love to hear about it from a director such as yourself.

Thanks, Jack!

thanks for your observation and no, a conscious decision has not been made. from the beginning i have tried to guide the direction of LOST so that the characters and story would always come first....jj's awesome work on the pilot was stylish and subtle...we don't over do the HANDHELD CAMERA like a lot of shows do because, i believe, there should be a reason we are doing it....as far as WIDE ANGLES vs. LONGER...it depends on the scope of the story we are telling...i always try to balance the internal landscape of the characters with the ISLAND they are surviving on.,..so, we still try to get those BIG SHOTS in there...they MATTER. thanks. more great stuff coming...jb
