View Full Version : Miss Klugh and Colleen - interchangeable?
Get_A_Klugh 01-19-2007, 02:03 PM I keep reading at various threads how some people (apparently with "inside" information) have reported (or maybe just speculated) that Miss Klugh was originally supposed to be shot by Sun in "The Glass Ballerina," and that the writers only created the character of Colleen to fill that role when actress April Grace (who plays Miss Klugh) was unavailable for filming?
Is this rumor true? If so, is there any solid evidence (cast or producers quotations/statements?) to support this theory?
I really don't understand why they would go to the trouble of creating such a fascinating recurring character as Bea Klugh, only to kill her off in her fourth episode?
The fact that Colleen was married to Pickett, and that they went to the trouble of casting a Deadwood alum for the role, would suggest to me that Colleen wasn't some "Miss Klugh substitute," and she was instead meant to be a two-episode character in her own right, intended to die as a way of setting the stage for Pickett to alter the plot. I just can't imagine Danny Pickett fawning over "his beloved Bea."
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE Lost creative team - - keep April Grace on the show for several more episodes, and give us at least one Klugh-centric flashback episode before killing her off!
I want to see some glimpses into Miss Klugh's life before she arrived on the island.
I want to see more of her interactions with Zeke, Benry, and Juliet.
I want to know WHY she does the things she does, and WHY she took such a hard-nosed attitude with Walt.
I want to see her stick Walt in "The_Room."
I want to know WHY she referred to herself as "Miss Klugh" (I'm guessing it has something to do with her being the caretaker of the abducted children).
I want to see some scenes with Alex, Karl, Emma, and Zack over at Miss Klugh's Day Care, complete with Creepy Toys, Creepy Rituals, and Creepy DHARMA-Processed DayCare Meals.
I'm getting tired of pointless filler for the ensemble, just because some of them have die-hard fanbases.
Please, no more: boring hospital-based JackBacks, scenes with Charlie uttering bad dialogue and acting like a moron, Locke uttering dumb philosophical platitudes, Claire whining about stuff, Sayid making stupid decisions, or Hurley acting personality-deprived yet not properly grieving over Libby's death.
Maybe the hiatus is just making me crazy? Someone please explain why a seven-month break is a good thing, again? :eek2:
penyours 01-19-2007, 04:48 PM Actually now that you mention it, I can't recall either where this info orginated from. I would guess it would have come out of a spoiler, some old script info or something like that. And I agree I hope it's not true and that TPTB have bigger plans for Ms Klugh then just being someone who's killed off quickly.
And I hope this doesn't turn into another we missed a big clue in the pilot incident where people believe the info but no one can find a source
LightMeDark 01-19-2007, 05:28 PM Please, no more: boring hospital-based JackBacks, scenes with Charlie uttering bad dialogue and acting like a moron, Locke uttering dumb philosophical platitudes, Claire whining about stuff, Sayid making stupid decisions, or Hurley acting personality-deprived yet not properly grieving over Libby's death.
I'll take any of those things (except for the Sayid stupid decisions and Hurley acting personality-deprived) over more stuff with Miss Klugh. I'm not sure why, but she seemed extremely out of place when she was introduced, sticking out like a sore thumb, and never seemd quite like she fit (thankfully, i don't remember much of her).
Jezz1226 01-19-2007, 06:35 PM This is from an old Kristen chat (sorry, I don't know the exact date)
Someone died on last night's Lost, but it was not the person it was supposed to be.
Don’t read on if you haven’t seen the episode, but the initial plan was for Sun to kill off an Other--not Colleen, the tough little biscuit we just met last night, who got it in the gut from a suddenly spineful Sun.
So, which Other was supposed to die? Any guesses? I can tell you it was not Benry (as if)...nor Juliet...nor Alex...
It was none other than the mysterious Mrs. Klugh. That's right: She was going to get a Klugh.
I think she sees scripts ahead of time, but not actual episodes and IIRC before the episode aired she had leaked info saying that Mrs. Klugh was going to die.
Also, Gregg responded to this question:
...Also Kristin said that Ms. Klugh was originally supposed to be "Colleen" which makes sense because you told me she was busy working on something else. Does this mean that April Grace avoided her death on the show?...
with
I think April Grace was very happy to be busy and avoid a certain fate.

I think between those two sources it implies (if not flat out says) that it was supposed to be Miss Klugh that died. However, I'm hopeful that the writers will take advantage of this situation to show more of her story, maybe they were planning on showing more about Colleen later so they can now use Klugh instead to show some on island flashbacks of the Others. :)
penyours 01-19-2007, 06:39 PM Thanks Jezz! Unfortunately this isn't a good sgn for Ms klugh as it indicates that TPTB had no intentions of including her in essential plotlines, though it still seems strange after the great introduction and connection to Walt. Many people were drawn to Ms Klugh
JeremyBender 01-19-2007, 06:44 PM I'm not sure why, but she seemed extremely out of place when she was introduced, sticking out like a sore thumb, and never seemd quite like she fit (thankfully, i don't remember much of her)Maybe it was the context? She was so cool, calm and confident, it really jarred with the whole fake camp that The Others had set up. I loved her from the get go and I loved that bit in LTDA when she and Tom banter ("Thanks for telling them my name, BEA"). She probably won't be seen again until season 4, but that's cool. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE Lost creative team - - keep April Grace on the show for several more episodes, and give us at least one Klugh-centric flashback episode before killing her off!Um, or: don't kill her off at all. That's a thought, eh? :) I want to see some glimpses into Miss Klugh's life before she arrived on the islandI'd love that, but they'd have to give her more prominence to justify a flashback.I want to see more of her interactions with Zeke, Benry, and JulietZeke and Benry, Zeke and Benry....who are these Zeke and Benry you speak of?
Oh. You mean Tom and Ben, gotcha.
:)
I want to know WHY she does the things she does, and WHY she took such a hard-nosed attitude with WaltBen: .....we got more than we bargained for when Walt joined us.......
Just ask that poor little bird, Walt can be a Not Nice Person at all. I want to see her stick Walt in "The_Room."I just want to see The Room, period! :)I want to see some scenes with Alex, Karl, Emma, and Zack over at Miss Klugh's Day Care, complete with Creepy Toys, Creepy Rituals, and Creepy DHARMA-Processed DayCare MealsHahahahaha. Mmmmmmmm.....DHARMA mac n' cheese......mmmmmm......
Seriously though, I'd *love* to see more Others-related rituals (Colleen's funeral is an example).I'm getting tired of pointless filler for the ensemble, just because some of them have die-hard fanbases.Careful, careful, you might stir up a hornet's nest there. :)Please, no more: boring hospital-based JackBacks, scenes with Charlie uttering bad dialogue and acting like a moron, Locke uttering dumb philosophical platitudes, Claire whining about stuff, Sayid making stupid decisions, or Hurley acting personality-deprived yet not properly grieving over Libby's deathAbsolutely, nah disagree with that, agreed, totally for sure, absolutely and maybe survival trumped a Jack-like cry-athon by Hugo for Libby.Maybe the hiatus is just making me crazy? Someone please explain why a seven-month break is a good thing, again? Hahaha. I think 7 months will be different, it's so long, *hopefully* most people will take some time off from the show and the 'lage, play with the pets, talk to spouses, go to a nice art gallery, you know, that sort of thing.
:)

very true, it's unlikely we'll see a ms Klugh FB until S4 because we haven't seen enough of her yet.
.Hahaha. I think 7 months will be different, it's so long, *hopefully* most people will take some time off from the show and the 'lage, play with the pets, talk to spouses, go to a nice art gallery, you know, that sort of thing.
:)
hehe, I guess we'll see won't we.
lovelost4815162342 01-19-2007, 07:05 PM ya i thought that we would see her this season because the first 6 episodes were so other-oriented. At first it seemed like she was an important other, but now it doesnt seem like she has much to do with anything. But i really do want to see a flashback of hers. But i dont think that would be as much of a priorety as Juliet, Ben, the island, the others in general, and such.
100%

ya-the stuff that normal people who arent obsessed with a certain TV show do! haha-i dont think iv been to an art gallery since iv started lost, havent talked to my spouse (though that does make sense seeing as i dont have one...) and iv barely even played with my dog! hmmmm...
LightMeDark 01-19-2007, 07:40 PM Maybe it was the context? She was so cool, calm and confident, it really jarred with the whole fake camp that The Others had set up. I'm really not so sure what seemed so off about her. I'm in the middle of rewatching S2, so I'll get to it soon and see if she still jars me out of the experience so badly.
Get_A_Klugh 01-19-2007, 10:57 PM Well, according to Damon and Carleton:
Miss Klugh will be back later this season (they said this in one of their podcasts; I think it was the second one from this season). I just hope it isn't to gratuitously kill her off for no real reason.
Well, originally Benry was only going to be with us for a handful of episodes, until Michael Emerson popped with the audience and (apparently) the creative team...so I wonder if they'd always intended for him to be the leader of The Others...or if Benry was originally written to die at the hands of the Losties?
But I'm still confused: does this mean that Miss Klugh and Pickett were originally intended to be married? (they certainly didn't seem like a married couple, in "Three Minutes"). Or did making Colleen married to Danny just happen to conveniently work for the plot at the last minute?
penyours 01-20-2007, 12:01 AM They needed some sort of event to anger Pickett and eventually want to kill Sawyer so I would guess that yes they would have had Ms Klugh and Danny be married. I don't think it would have been that big of a deal. Colleen and Danny only had one ot two scenes together and they don't actually seem a perfect couple either.
zagubieni 01-20-2007, 02:30 AM Maybe Miss Klugh will be what Rose was in season 1 (she's somewhere in the background and will be back soon for one or two eps)?
Get_A_Klugh 01-20-2007, 03:55 AM I just find it odd that, if they were married, Miss Klugh referred to Danny by his last name ("Pickett!") when she had him bring Walt into the tent to see Michael, in "Three Minutes."
penyours 01-20-2007, 04:03 AM Yeah that's odd, though they may have wanted to seem more impersonal in front of Michael, in LTDA, it seemed that Tom was annoyed that his first name was revealed.
irish lost fan 01-20-2007, 08:06 AM I think it would have been more dramatic if Sun had killed Bea just because we'd seen her for more episodes it would have been more of a shock than to just bring in Colleen to get shot.
But nevertheless I do hope they bring back Klugh at some point. I think:
We'll definately see her when Walts story is explained
Mark_E 01-20-2007, 09:11 AM I dont know why but I could have imagined Mrs Klugh to be Juliets character.
penyours 01-20-2007, 02:14 PM It's true Ms klugh and Juliet were initially trying to do similar things, convince a lostie in a friendly way to do something for the others. Ms Klugh seemed to have a similar rank as Juliet has at the moment. I would love if TPTB have decided to include Ms Klugh in a major story arc.
little toy plane 02-19-2007, 09:14 AM Miss Klugh was a nun in her life before the island...!

And she will be back on our screens in episode 11: "Enter 77"

RodimusBen 03-10-2007, 12:36 PM Well, she's dead now. Honestly I felt she was pretty uninteresting and disposable, just another "ooooh mysterious" Other but with less of a distinct personality.
sjb121590 03-11-2007, 11:11 AM I liked Bea... I think they killed her off prematurely (like they did with Libby). I mean, she was interesting. If anything, I'd rather have her killed by Sun then have had her met her end at the hands of Michail. Her death just seemed... stupid. What was the point of it all?
I am just hoping that maybe she isn't really dead... we never saw what happened to her body.
RodimusBen 03-11-2007, 11:18 AM Can you describe specifically why she was interesting? I mean, I just didn't see anything that made her stand out. But I think she ultimately did serve a purpose by connecting with the Flame and showing that the Others were trying to fix the communications problem post-purple-sky. Even more interesting is that they travel across the island by horse.
sjb121590 03-11-2007, 01:08 PM I don't know, she just had this... exotic quality about her. You can tell that she was a head honcho, and that she and Tom weren't exactly friends... but she just has a way to stick in your mind. At least, she stayed in my mind. LOL
