Hey there, Ja-Vi! *(that's kind of like Jor-El)

I know it's been said many times, many ways, but great, great job on "In Translation." *It was just so perfect. *Character-wise, emotionally, logically. *And the cast and crew executed it so well! DDK, Yunjin, Harold...and it was photographed so well. The "supermodel" shot of Yunjin at the end was just so picturesque. I guess the one big thing I would have to say about that episode (if he were around today) is: TAKE THAT, GHARLANE OF EDDORE! :)

I seem to keep just missing you on the LB, but my question about the ep is probably better suited for the threads here. My question is: how was the collaboration process with Leonard set up? *Did you both come up with a rough outline and each write different acts separately? *Which ideas were yours and which were his? *Was there something you felt you were particularly weak on that Leonard helped support you with and vice versa? It obviously came together very, very well!

C-ya round the internet!

Jon

we had a plan to do "the episode where jin finds out" from very early on (it's a big signpost in our continuity and a major part of the Grand Scheme) - so when the time was right, all the writers got in the room and together, led by damon and carlton, as well as by where the show was at the time, came up with a story.

when it comes time to outline/flesh out the story and write the script, the way leonard and i worked, and this is the way most of the collaborations go on the show is that we break the story up not by acts but by arcs - that way each writer can do an entire story with a beginning, middle, and end and the process is less fragmented than if you just do it by acts. in the case of "in translation," i did the flashbacks and the sayid/shannon story, leonard did the raft burning story - then together we rewrote and refined the script.

and then, voila! televisual goodness!

thanks for your question and kind words,
