When Sun tells Jin that she had planned to leave him, she switches to English and then back to Korean. My impression was that she really was speaking English at that point, perhaps because she felt the need to express herself but still didn't want to tell Jin about it in a way that he could understand, perhaps for fear of her reaction. Some people on other message boards, however, have been insisting that Sun was "really" speaking Korean throughout that scene, and that the switch to English was a kind of switch for the sake of the viewing audience, kind of like when Sayid and his Iraqi countrymen switched to English in "Solitary." Can you tell us, was this a case of Sun speaking Korean but having it said in English for audience effect, or was it supposed to be that Sun actually deliberately switched to English to say those lines to Jin?

sun deliberately switched to english. she was in a highly emotional state but couldn't reveal the totality of her plans to jin because it would have been such a crushing blow to him, even though she had to tell him in some way. it was NOT a "hunt for red cotober"/"judgment at nuremberg" type convention to get them talking in english - we are proud of the fact that our koran characters speak their native language!
