Hey Javi, love your work, especially "In Translation...".

I'm an aspiring televsion writer myself and I'm interested in writing a Lost spec, but I'm not really sure how to approach specing this show. It is a pretty tough show to spec considering how serialized it is and how many questions are still unanswered. I was wondering if you could give me any advice, or just tell me how you would approach it if you were faced with daunting task of writing a Lost spec. Any information is greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot!

the most important thing is that you approach it from the point of view of a character and craft the story and backstory accordingly. on this show, the flashbacks and the island story are of equal importance and they serve to illuminate one another - so you really need to figure out who's story you want to tell and go from there (especially since you really don't want to address major continuity in a spec).

a good thing to remember is also to keep it small - most of our stories address a day of life on the island and very specific incidents in the lives of the characters. the more you zero in on something relevant in the character's past as opposed to tackling the totality of what makes them who they are, the more likely you are to succeed.

i hope that's helpful. good luck with your spec!
