Hello,

This is my first post here. I'm an indie filmmaker ( http://films.cubit.net ) and web guru, amongst other things. Love the show. I was just curious, on a project like this, how much of the overall story is known? As a viewer, we don't really know what the story is about yet. We know some strange things are happening, but we don't know what the *point* of the story is. Is it aliens? Luck? The Matrix? A Dream? Etc. My question is, how much do you guys yourselves know at this point? Is there a definite direction the story is heading, or is it something you (along with us) are exploring along the way? I would assume that someone has a master plan, but, was just curious as to whether or not the writers knew what that was. However, I must say, thank you so much for good character development and an intriguing story line. It's so refreshing to see something on TV that is intelligently written and with an interesting story... I'm so sick of reality TV.

On a second note, I'm sure you guys must struggle with keeping continuity together on the show with all the different timelines and flashbacks. There are already a few continuity problems (seemingly) between the online diary and the show. I've plotted things out for my own clarification... http://www.cubit.net/lostStuff.php

Keep up the good work.

briefly (as i have answered some fifteen posts today and the wrists are starting to ache!) -

we have a plan.

we know what the island is.

we know what the monster is and its purpose.

we have a set series of "signposts" that we have to arrive at as we go through the season, and most of these were decided on from very early on (deaths, births, abductions, revelations) and work out the individual epsiodic storylines from there.

we spent a large amount of time early in the development of the series working out the character backstories so we understand the framework from which these people are coming - but also allow ourselves to be flexible and change things around as we see fit.

we have a master plan but allow ourselves "wiggle room" to explore other things as they reveal themselves to us.

thanks for the question!
