Just a thought....Desmond's jumping between 2004 and 1996 caused me to think back to the very beginning of the first episode of the first season. Jack on his back, opening his eyes.... Could it be that Jack jumped back to the island at that point? From where or when, I haven't a clue.

Maybe he jumped forward to the island, from the moment the plane crossed the barrier. If he wakes up back in the plane as it is crashing, he may be able to do something to keep the lane from crashing onto the island. He did say he had taken flight classes at one point, didn't he? Either way, it would expalin how the plane wound up at the bottom of the ocean and not on the lsland.

A very interesting idea NixDad, so everything that we are seeing now would be a flashback? or something like it anyway. Maybe jack's FF to the brigde is a clue. A FF to the current time. Only problem is, so many things points against this.
