View Full Version : Ben: "Your ROCK is lovely this time of year"
iconsavvvy 04-27-2008, 03:31 AM Well all I wanted to discuss is the fact that Ben specifically called the Island a rock, I have always had a feeling that the Island may be a meteor or a rock from space that carried outer worldly properties. This could explain the magnetism of the island and a lot of the wired things that the island seems to do. I know that aliens have been scratched by the writers but not alien materials! Any elaborations to add to this idea?
jimknopf 04-27-2008, 03:47 AM Dude-he said IRAQ is a lovely place.
iconsavvvy 04-27-2008, 03:53 AM ahahahahahahahaha my bad i dont know how i could have missed that. But still outer space rock??
sculder13 04-30-2008, 12:53 AM that was seriously the best thing i read all day.i had to share it with my boyfriend LOL
Avius 04-30-2008, 01:01 AM Haha! Iraq. Don't sweat it. We all do it.
I can get on board with the island is a meteorite. It's an old pet theory.
Bella 04-30-2008, 01:28 AM :rotflmao2: This? Was the best misunderstanding EVER.
Cute, if inadvertently so.
herrdokter 04-30-2008, 07:08 AM LMAO, in fairness he does pronounce it weird.
I gotta listen again, but doesn't the hotel receptionist pronounce bens cover name different to what he does? I'm sure it sounded different anyway, which I thought was wierd since he just said it, so she heard how to say it...
seaquelost 04-30-2008, 08:47 AM :rotflmao2: This? Was the best misunderstanding EVER.

Yeah, I agree.
Hey, Iconsavvy...this has happened before. When Sayid asked Des (S3) if he would use the boat (Elizabeth), Des responded to Sayid, "Ah, going to see the "hostiles"? A few people were confused and asked why Sayid is going to see the "horse stalls"?
augustwest 04-30-2008, 08:53 AM nice-
good morning laugh- i needed that-
everyone makes mistakes, oh yes they do....
Dublin Dilettante 04-30-2008, 09:45 AM Actually it threw me for a few seconds, too. Americans usually pronounce it eye-rack, rather than "irrack" as I would, but Ben goes for "irrawk."
Avius 04-30-2008, 09:54 AM Yeah, I agree.

I remember that! And when Eko was in the jungle hallucinating that those guys were there with machetes, and little Daniel said, "Confess," a lot of people thought Daniel said, "Goldfish."

lol......I forgot about that one.

Wow. I never knew why the youngster said "Go Fish" to Eko. Me and my buddies all figure it meant he was telling him you missed your guess, now take a card...as though they were playing the children's card game of "Go Fish" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Go_Fish). I was thinking the island was trying to tell Eko he did not get the meaning of the message being conveyed, now try again...where trying again kinda sets you back in the card game by drawing more cards you are trying to get rid of. Wow.
Now I feel enormously stoo stoo stooopid...LOL
Great thread for a morning laugh...hehehe
Madge 04-30-2008, 01:01 PM Great, now I have "Solid As Your Rock" going through me head. It'll be there all day, I just know it.
Dr. Suds 04-30-2008, 01:17 PM Dude-he said IRAQ is a lovely place.
Sure, but that pun was used in Arrested Development, where they sang "Solid as a rock" in a way to suggest "Iraq". So I wouldn't doubt its intentionality in Lost.
Lost Ed 04-30-2008, 02:14 PM There was NOOOOO intention to misunderstand "Iraq" as "Your Rock" ....
Icon blew it, we appropriately trashed him/her for it. And have continued this great thread as a result.
Ben said it correctly as one of the many pronunciations.
Here comes the "Your Rock" theory.......

We didn't trash him/her.

I didn't realize it was appropriate to trash someone for making an honest mistake. That's kind of harsh...
LostMyMarbles 04-30-2008, 06:23 PM There's also the great moment:
"I don't know, I think she was saying something about plywood."
They later decided it was
PAOLO LIES
But the real message was
PARALYZED!
Madge 04-30-2008, 06:28 PM That was awesome! To realize they were buried alive was definitly a jaw dropper!
hd9700 04-30-2008, 08:17 PM Which is why I always watch it with the captions on!
seaquelost 04-30-2008, 09:15 PM But the real message was
PARALYZED!
OMG....that was such a shocking episode. Buried alive....dear lord!
Which is why I always watch it with the captions on!
I can't watch it the first time around with CC on....I tend to focus on reading the captions and miss all the action. You know...sorta' like can't walk and chew gum at the same time.
PhillyandBCEagles 05-01-2008, 12:39 AM "The Rock" is a nickname for Alcatraz....just sayin'.
Kadjar 05-01-2008, 03:44 AM Ben actually pronounced Iraq correctly. In Arabic, Iraq is spelled yeh-reh-alif-qaaf, which lends to a pronunciation of "yi-rah-q," depending on dialect. The "q" is not an English q, but swallowed... more akin to the sound one makes when choking.
iconsavvvy 05-01-2008, 09:25 AM teeheeee who knew there was nice people on message boards!
Greta 05-01-2008, 10:23 AM :rotflmao2: This? Was the best misunderstanding EVER.
Cute, if inadvertently so.
I soooooo agree, I'm still laughing, thank you Icon for a great start to my day. What fun!
Lost Ed 05-01-2008, 10:39 AM Apparently, I use the word "trash" in a much more lite hearted manner than you guys interpret it.
In context...it was a fun post...
Bella 05-01-2008, 03:09 PM teeheeee who knew there was nice people on message boards!
We knew.
imfromthepast 05-01-2008, 03:17 PM LOL!!
Your Rock FTW!!
Bella 05-01-2008, 03:52 PM LOL!!
Your Rock FTW!!
