View Full Version : Ben: "Your ROCK is lovely this time of year"

Well all I wanted to discuss is the fact that Ben specifically called the Island a rock, I have always had a feeling that the Island may be a meteor or a rock from space that carried outer worldly properties. This could explain the magnetism of the island and a lot of the wired things that the island seems to do. I know that aliens have been scratched by the writers but not alien materials! Any elaborations to add to this idea?

Haha! Iraq. Don't sweat it. We all do it.

I can get on board with the island is a meteorite. It's an old pet theory.

:rotflmao2: This? Was the best misunderstanding EVER.

Cute, if inadvertently so.

LMAO, in fairness he does pronounce it weird.

I gotta listen again, but doesn't the hotel receptionist pronounce bens cover name different to what he does? I'm sure it sounded different anyway, which I thought was wierd since he just said it, so she heard how to say it...

Yeah, I agree.

Hey, Iconsavvy...this has happened before. When Sayid asked Des (S3) if he would use the boat (Elizabeth), Des responded to Sayid, "Ah, going to see the "hostiles"? A few people were confused and asked why Sayid is going to see the "horse stalls"?

Actually it threw me for a few seconds, too. Americans usually pronounce it eye-rack, rather than "irrack" as I would, but Ben goes for "irrawk."

I remember that! And when Eko was in the jungle hallucinating that those guys were there with machetes, and little Daniel said, "Confess," a lot of people thought Daniel said, "Goldfish."

Wow. I never knew why the youngster said "Go Fish" to Eko. Me and my buddies all figure it meant he was telling him you missed your guess, now take a card...as though they were playing the children's card game of "Go Fish" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Go_Fish). I was thinking the island was trying to tell Eko he did not get the meaning of the message being conveyed, now try again...where trying again kinda sets you back in the card game by drawing more cards you are trying to get rid of. Wow.

Now I feel enormously stoo stoo stooopid...LOL

Great thread for a morning laugh...hehehe

Great, now I have "Solid As Your Rock" going through me head. It'll be there all day, I just know it.

Sure, but that pun was used in Arrested Development, where they sang "Solid as a rock" in a way to suggest "Iraq". So I wouldn't doubt its intentionality in Lost.

There was NOOOOO intention to misunderstand "Iraq" as "Your Rock" ....

Icon blew it, we appropriately trashed him/her for it. And have continued this great thread as a result.

Ben said it correctly as one of the many pronunciations.

Here comes the "Your Rock" theory.......

I didn't realize it was appropriate to trash someone for making an honest mistake. That's kind of harsh...

There's also the great moment:

"I don't know, I think she was saying something about plywood."

They later decided it was

PAOLO LIES

But the real message was

PARALYZED!

OMG....that was such a shocking episode. Buried alive....dear lord!

Which is why I always watch it with the captions on!

I can't watch it the first time around with CC on....I tend to focus on reading the captions and miss all the action. You know...sorta' like can't walk and chew gum at the same time.

"The Rock" is a nickname for Alcatraz....just sayin'.

Ben actually pronounced Iraq correctly. In Arabic, Iraq is spelled yeh-reh-alif-qaaf, which lends to a pronunciation of "yi-rah-q," depending on dialect. The "q" is not an English q, but swallowed... more akin to the sound one makes when choking.

Apparently, I use the word "trash" in a much more lite hearted manner than you guys interpret it.
