When TNPLH started with the interior of the plane, then we heard the "flashback sound" and we cut back to the island. Do you guys think this episode marked a point of crossing over, where the rest of the stuff on the island (until season 5-6) are the actual flashbacks?

Hey now. I need something to hold on to, so don't you come here confusing me with your present-past-future rules-changer. Or should I decide on my constant now?

While it's interesting, to be honest I'll keep my sanity by just referring to the island events as the "real stuff", and the other (fb, ff, etc[?]) as "other stuff". But surely, what you're suggesting seems relevant, doesn't it?

Given that the doctor washed up on shore before the doctor was killed...I'd say the island scenes are flash forwards and the flash forward scenes are flashbacks.,

Owwwww....:uhh:

Well, we just know that the island is in the future, but that still doesn't explain Faraday getting the package shot off the boat hours after it was supposed to arrive. There probably will be a twist involving time perspective, like last season. Who knows?
This makes me even more confused. <pouts and walks away>

I just meant that instead of flashbacks being off the island, maybe the present is now off the island?

I've been thinking the same thing since I saw the episode last night! Although I would say that the changeover hasn't happend yet, simply because the events on the Island/freighter are so fractured and happening simoultaneously, whereas flashes are usually focused on a specific character.

It's interesting to note the lack of conventional flashbacks this season.

Confirmed Dead: It was used to introduce Daniel, Charlotte, Miles, and Frank.

The Constant was neither a flashforward nor flashback, if I understand it in any way!

The Other Woman: This was the closest thing to a conventional flashback, although I always feel on-Island flashbacks don't count!:)

Ji Yeon: Simply a plot device for the twist.

Meet Kevin Johnson: Huge chunk of filling-in, mixed with mythology.

Cabin Fever: HUGE chunk of mythology!

What I'm trying to say is, the flashbacks of old (which would focus on a certain event in a character's live that would inform us of the person they are and simply parallel events in the present rather than actually having any bearing on them) haven't really been seen since last season, so perhaps this means that there will indeed be a changeover of some sort.

I've rambled on far longer than I thought I would! Apologies!

I just think it could be very interesting to see how the flashes are structured next season.

End of ramble!

Actually he only got the package 31 minutes and 18 seconds after it was shot of the boat. But that time seems to fluctuate since the Doctor washed up on shore hours (maybe a day) before he was killed on the boat.

They've done this several times throughout the season. The FLASH sound seems only to denote the change between the flashes. I mean, there were times in seasons 1, 2 and 3 where the show OPENED in the past, and the first time you hear it goes back to the island. That didn't imply that the past was the present, and the present the future.

Just my two cents. Ultimately, it doesn't effect the show one way or the other, but is interesting to discuss certainly.

For some reason I didn't notice that, lol. I think your most likely right.

I honestly don't think it matters anymore what we should be considering the "past," "present" and "future." We know where everything fits in the timeline, so the journey now is in piecing it all together. The "flashback" sound and the flashes themselves have always simply represented jumps between time periods; it's just that until TTLG it was always into the past and back. Now, anything goes.
