Less a question and more a compliment. I posted this on Terry's thread, but wanted to extend it to you and all the writers, the unsung heroes of entertainment :)
I love Locke. Kudos to Terry O'Quinn for creating such an intriguing character. With a process that is so collaborative, I know applause extends as well to the producers and directors and especially -- since I fancy myself one … and apparently like to use the term “fancy” -- the writers.
Last night’s episode (Deus ex Machina), while intriguing in terms of Lost’s overall mythology, was especially rewarding because it just peeled back another layer of John. To me, John is one of the most fallible, vulnerable characters on the island. He puts on a good show. And he is struggling, struggling, struggling to redefine himself.
There’s a lot of debate as to whether John is good or evil, but I think that’s traveling down the wrong path. I think John is fighting a lot of internal conflicts, might suffer a bit of his mom’s mental illness, and, while strong and brave in one instance, is weak and bullied in others.
He’s fascinating. Utterly fascinating. And I can’t wait to learn more about it.
Take good care of him! I hope there’s an Emmy in all of your futures.
Thanks!
Tom
